How many calories should I burn in a day?

I am trying to lose weight in a healthy manner I can stick with. I was previously a smaller person, and college caused me to gain alot of weight. I currently go to the gym 3-4 days a week and consume less then 2000 calories a day (probably more like 1500-1800) and I eat a low fat diet for the most part with lean meat and lots of veggies and fruit. How many calories should I brun each time I go to the gym in order to lose weight in a reasonable time? The quicker the better of course, but safety and the ability to keep it off is most important. My job requires me to stand for at least 2-3 hours a day and I walk between classes.

Counting calories and those burned gets really annoying really fast. What worked for me to lose the weight in a healthy way was to exercise between 45 and 60 minutes a day for at least 5 days a week. And it sounds like you’re already eating the right things, so kudos to you and good luck!

Well, make sure that about 2 hours before you go to the gym you eat something relatively high in carbohydrates (a small bowl of pasta or sandwich will do very nicely). You need to have a ready source of carbs available to your muscles so that you can work out over long periods of time. and 2 hours afterwards eat another source of carbs to replenish those stores. If you dont your performance will slowly decrease because you dont have enough energy to do the workouts.

It sounds as if you are already burning a nice amount of calories, and your diet sounds very healthy. Keep it up and you should see small results in a few weeks.

I would try to burn at least 350-500. This could be done in 45-60min depending upon resistance and speed.
