Will I lose weight when the doctor takes my cyst off my ovary?

I just found out I have a cyst on my ovary. I have gained a lot of weight and it is because of the cyst. I heard if the doctor takes the cyst away I can lose weight. Is that true?

Yes. Most of the weight is most likely retained water making you bloated. My cousin had two cysts taken out and she noticeably lost weight (don’t know the numbers, but you could tell).

    It depends.

I had a tennis-ball sized ovarian cyst. They removed it along with my ovary and my weight didn’t really change. If you have a dramatically big cyst, I think you can only expect to lose as much weight as that thing weighs.

However, if you have a condition called PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome), that syndrome itself can cause weight gain. But removing the cyst doesn’t cure PCOS, you’ll need to get on various medications to bring it under control and some of those can help you lose weight if your weight gain was caused by the hormone imbalance that causes PCOS.

    Good luck!
