Dieting for body fat loss and Abs?

I’m 6′ 3″ and now around 187 pounds.

So I have been dieting on a low carb, low fat diet that is around like 1600-1800 calories a day for like a week now and I have lost 8 pounds.

1) Is this healthy to loose this much weight so quickly?

I also don’t really have access to a gym, but I have been running for like 30 minutes every other day and I usually do like 250 sit ups before I go to bed and before I wake up. My stomach is getting a bit flatter too. My goal is just to get some defined abs.

2) Is this effective enough, and is there anything else I should be doing?

3) How long do you think it would take to get some good abs? Weeks? Months?

    its too fast…you might have lost some muscle…3 lbs a week is the optimum…just run 5 or 6days a week…do yoga and pilates daily…you may attempt kickboxing if you can afford it…

    Bro, your method, doesnt work very well for guys you should restrict your body food what you do is work out and do alot of cardio because part of that fat loss is muscle and we want to gain muscle right? , after 3-4 hours after your last meal start your strength training, wieghtlifting bench pressing this will burn alot of the carbohydrates stored in your muscles then do a quick stretch and begin a good long run after a mile or two your body should turn into a fat burning furnace ! Remember the furnace only stops when you do. And you wont see a sixpack if its covered by a layer of fat and also your stomach is the last place your body burns fat and try to search other ab exercises because after your body does one excercise for a long time it loses its effectiveness so try to change up your exercises this is called muscle confusion and good sign is if your abs are sore,

    I lost 9 pounds in my first week of diet and exercise and it scared the life out of me! But don’t worry-apparently for the first week or so, your body is getting used to the diet and will drop it quick but then it will even out. Try stomach crunches as well as sit ups. And remember its not how many you do but more that you’re doing them right. Good luck with getting flat abs…I don’t remember EVER having flat abs so i’ll sit here and be insanely jealous as you get yours!!!

    Getting six pack or ripped abs is quite simple – even if it isn’t easy!

    First you will need to work out – often ab specific exercises aren’t necessary, as a good whole body work out will also work the abs.

    Second you need to lower your body fat percentage so that the abs show through rather than being covered by a layer of fat.

    How long this will take depends on where you start from!

    If you want to develop your abs then I recommend getting a good book about it so that you can find the best diet and exercise and tailor it to your own needs. A great review site that has found the three best books is here:

    First of all let me tell you that most of the people answering got it wrong. the reason you lost so much weight is because:

    #1. Your glycogen stores are depleted. the body can hold about 400 gr (0.88 lbs) of glycogen and each is stored along with 3 gr of water . So right off the bat you lost 1600 gr (3.52 lbs) just because glycogen is depleted and you are not eating crabs to restore them.

    #2. Carbs and fats have the most caloric content, so eliminating them ( most part ) removes the bulk of your caloric intake. add exercising and you have got a great deficit. problem is that it won’t be long before your metabolism slows down.

    So you won’t maintain this rate of weight loss.

    Also, I don’t sugest you remove fats. In fact some are essential for optimum health (essential fatty acids ) and must be ingested as the body cannot produce them.
