1. Invest in a quality razor that has three or even four blades. Many brands offer this, but they are pricey. Discount razors usually only have one or two blades, which can leave stubble behind.
2. Before you start, make sure your razor is clean and is not rusty. Having a gunked up or rusty razor is a good way to get nicks or razor burn. Using a new razor is best.
3. Get in the shower or tub and let the warm water and steam soften up your skin. You may even choose to exfoliate your skin before putting on shaving cream, to get rid of dead skin cells and achieve a closer shave.
4. Get something to spread over your skin, to help protect it and give it moisture. You can use soap, shaving cream or anything else that will provide moisture and help keep you from getting nicks and razor burn. Do NOT use water by itself!
5. Shave the opposite way the hair grows. This will achieve a much closer shave than shaving in the same direction as your hair growth.
6. Put lotion on after you are done. This is necessary if you don’t want to experience the pain of razor burn.
