Vegans losing weight: Has it made you look older or younger?

I’ve recently become a vegan, and am losing weight. I wasn’t overweight to begin with, so I’m a bit concerned about looking older than what I am.

What’s your experience?
Hannibal: I do follow a balanced vegan diet, but when you cut out meat and dairy, that also includes sweets, ice-creams, etc. Losing weight is inevitable.

Don’t worry about it,let your body go to the place it wants to naturally. As long as your eating healthy.
A few years ago I did the “body for life” way of eating and lost about 40 lbs.some of my friends said I looked great but others said “omg! you need to gain some weight”! boils down to this…you need to accept your body at its natural state.
I put some weight back on since I moved to Spain and now I dont eat meat or any dairy products and of coarse no sweets.
Ive been eating lots of beans and raw veggies and fruits.Im losing weight but I look healthier I think because I’m avoiding all of the preservatives and such.

    Hope this helps 🙂

If you’re losing weight due to malnutrition (and it sounds like you are), then you will look older. You need to eat a more well-rounded diet.

I agree with mr_man. As long as you are focusing on getting the nutrients you need, let your body do what it naturally does. I have recently gone vegan (exception-I eat eggs from my own chickens) and am also losing some weight (I too started at a normal weight). I think I look better. My face has a glow to it and a general healthy look that I attribute to the ultra clean diet I am eating. If I remember right, nuts, omega 3 oils and certain fruits can really help make your skin look younger, so maybe focus on getting plenty of those foods?

Note for mr_man: Your experience is about exactly what mine has been. I also lost 40lbs on Body-for-Life. I think I looked good, but it made me crazy when it comes to food. I love the vegan-inspired diet and really enjoy the clean approach to eating. I actually would like to hear more about your current eating habits. Feel free to email: [email protected]

I have been a vegetarian for 10 years and vegan for 5. I have always been skinny and did not lose weight, but people think I am 10 years younger than I actually am. So your biggest concern should be all the 19 year olds who will be hitting on you when you’re 30.
