Is skipping ropes a good workout for losing weight?

I want to lose weight through out the body but I don’t like running. I can skip ropes really fast for a long time. Is this a good work out for losing weight or will it just make my legs stronger?

Losing weight wise, I wouldn’t think so. Though it does help. Jumping rope is more like a warmup exercise to get your blood flowing through your body.

If you were to do it for around 20-30 minutes straight, it could burn the same as a treadmill for 15 minutes or so. Also make sure your diet is good.

    you move your hands, legs
    and you jump a lot….
    sweating you much
anyway, try to do it until you sweating a lot..
it is the evidence you burned some calorie

Any exercise you do requires energy, to get energy your body uses calories and so the more exercise you do the more calories you burn. Skipping is great if you are really good at it, doing 2 resolutions and skipping for long periods of time for example. If you have to pause alot and your cant skip more than one resolution it is not the best way you could burn calories.
I also don’t like running. I personally love the cross trainer, rowing and cycling which are effective cardio exercises for maximising your fat burning potential.
You could also try joining a class, its social, fun and you get a great workout. Spinning is one of the best for weight loss

It seems logical that it would burn a lot of calories, because it gets your heartrate right up! I can’t be sure, sorry.

Yes skipping rope will burn calories and help you to loose weight . It will also increase your heart rate and strengthen your heart as well as your legs. Increased activity leads to an increase in appetite so you also need to learn good nutrition. Learning what foods are healthy and what portions you need can help you feel better as well as loose weight. Keep in mind that exercise builds muscle which in turn burns more calories. Muscle also weighs more than fat.
Skipping rope will increase stress to your knees and ankles, so you might want to add some knee exercises to strengthen your knees. It will burn more calories than running, because you are actually using your arms to move the rope. It will also burn more calories than a treadmill. If you want to change your weight a combination of good nutrition and exercise will help you be successful. Good luck.
