you can pay for health insurance now and go to bupa or something like that…..everyone pays to the NHS that pays taxes plus i bet you would still go to your local GP if u get ill and if you had an emergency you would still call 999 wouldnt you. Thats all NHS.

No,
Unless you want to arrange your own private ambulance to pull you out of a car wreck, and visit your own private doctor when you are ill, and pay the FULL cost of any drugs you are prescribed.

If you are saying avoid paying taxes or NI contributions No.
If you are talking about having something like BUPA go ahead.
Unless you want to live like the American folk.

Sixty years ago, the NHS was created so that everyone would have EQUAL access to medical treatment (based on their clinical need and not their ability to pay). However, since then, newer and very much more expensive drugs have made it so that it has become impossible to provide all of these drugs to all the people who need them without significantly increasing taxes.
The problem is that if those who were able to fund private health insurance were allowed to opt out of paying any contributions, the NHS would not get enough revenue to provide care for those poorer members of our society.
Also, bear in mind that as you get older, the cost of private health insurance premiums will rise and you may no longer be able to afford it. If you had opted out of the NHS, would you expect to suddenly be taken back and if you couldn’t be taken back, where would you stand when you needed help ? What would happen if the insurance company added clauses or hiked the premiums because you had treatment in the past year ? – remember, they are there to make a profit for their shareholders.
At the moment, you pay NI contributions and if you also pay private health insurance, should you be able to mix NHS treatment and Private treatment ? This is currently being reviewed by Professor Mike Richards.
