How much demand would there be for a nutritionist/weight loss counsellor?

I’m very interested in nutrition and counselling so I’d love to set up a business helping people to lose weight – do you think there is potential for a fairly good income?

Definitely, obesity is an epidemic. 68% of Americans are overweight or obese and the numbers continue to grow. Look at all the interest in nutrition and weight loss around here. Good luck.

You might want to check out bariatrics–weight loss surgery. These people need a lot of counseling and instruction, and this is a soaring market.

Actually it is quite a good idea, though I would suspect you would need to collect a lot of different types of qualifications on the way. There is no doubt that one to one counselling can be useful in the sort of behaviour modification often needed to bring about the lifestyle changes requires for weight loss and improved fitness. A dietetics qualification and a counselling diploma would be a minimum requirement. Asking you to qualify as a fitness trainer as well is perhaps asking too much, this could be done by another staff member.
