Why doesn’t the fat Liberty Mutual guy who has diabetes just lose some weight?

I can’t stand this old fat guy. He was always so arrogant in movies/TV he starred in. Now he’s Liberty Mutual’s spokesperson. He’s very much overweight. Obviously he doesn’t exercise or watch his diet. So, to battle diabetes, why doesn’t he lose weight? It’s a very poor reflection on taking charge of your disease.

In most cases you are right, loosing weight will help type 2 diabetes, however type 1 and juvenial diabetes are not always caused by being overweight. And your right Wilford Brimley is kinda gruff.

I agree with Joshua, but I will also say that Type 1 is never caused by weight… it is a genetic auto-immune disorder…

The difference between type 1 and type 2 is this: due to the immune system attacking beta cells in the pancreas, the pancreas is no longer able to produce insulin.. this is type 1. In type 2 diabetes, the body becomes resistant to the insulin produced. Mainly due to lack of exercise, poor eating, overeating etc. the body’s ability to absorb insulin is hindered. Of course there are genetic predispositions to type 2 diabetes, but the above poor habits exacerbate and accelerate the problem…

Don’t confuse type 1 with type 2, they are two totally different diseases, they just affect similar hormones in the body.. Type 1 does NOT occur from weight etc.. In fact, one of the signs of type 1 diabetes is being emaciated and UNDERWEIGHT.

A lot of people have problems with weight. He is doing the best he can. Not everyone can lose weight and keep it off.

When you reduce calories, your body starts to conserve energy. That is why once you have a weight problem, it is hard to keep the weight off unless you adhere to a very strict exercise program.
