My mom has been smoking ever since way before i was born and its way past time to stop. Is there any helpful tips to encourage her to quit and help her out?

maybe find some pics of lung cancer. It is really gross. My mom died of lung cancer (smoked 42 yrs) and i watch her deteriorate to a lousy 90 lbs.She had cancer in her brain, lungs and bones. I watch her become weak, bald, and helpless. I can see the pain in her eyes. A slow death and knowing that she will die is much harder than a sudden death. I have dealt w/ both. Try to convince them that it isNOT always about them. Sometimes it’s about their kids and soon to be grandkids.

    Hello Cassidy S :
” NO ! ” Steady smokers have an addiction that is the most difficult to break. It is harder for a smoker to give up their cigarettes than for a drug addict to give up heroine or an alcoholic to give up booze.
You can suggest support groups. You can suggest only smoking outside the home. (This will help to cut down the amount smoked)
The smoker, themselves, have to put their minds to the fact that they want to quit or nothing will work. You won’t get anyone to quit smoking by saying, “You should quit.”

Helpme is completely right. She knows what she’s doing is bad for her and I’m sure she feels bad enough about it. It is so hard to quit. But when she is ready she will.

    Hi from France ♫

    I give my recipe… I stopped in 1987. I smoked 3 packs / day and one day I had the idea to calculate how many packs I smoked by year !.. I was 1 525.00 € ( $ 1,982.00 ).
When I saw that, I was like ” shocked ” !..!o! .. I immediately stopped and each day I put the money like if I smoked in a little ” pig ”, then I saved 1,525.00 € during the year when I stopped, do you see ? Tell this to your family ! .. !o!

    Have a great day,

    Cat.

I’ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend – NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.
    Check out this article:

it’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! 🙂

    Good luck kicking the habit!

A smoker has one chance to quit smoking, and that is if they decide they want to. You can say what you want, but until they really want to it will not happen. Usually, constantly talking about it just frustrates a smoker, and isn’t the best way to deal with it.
