I have been smoking for 37 years, besides stopping what is the best way to quit?

I recently moved from California to N.Carolina to be with my marine daughter (whose husband was just deployed to Iraq) and my first grandchild who is 5 months old,I have gone from a pack a day to a pack every 3 days, but my desire is to stop.any suggestions?
THE REASON I SAID”BESIDES STOPPING” IS BECAUSE IN THE PAST I HAVE ASKED PEOPLE ,THAT’S USUALLY THE SMART A_ _ _ _ ANSWER I GET. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS TO ME!! I DO NOT SMOKE IN MY DAUGHTERS HOME[WHOM I LIVE WITH] I DO NOT SMOKE AROUND MY GRANDDAUGHTER
AND ALSO I COVER MY CLOTHES,SO WHEN I AM HOLDING HER SHE IS’NT BREATHING IN 2nd HAND SMOKE! YOU CAN’T STOP SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE ELSE,YOU HAVE TO DO IT FOR YOURSELF.SO PLEASE!!! DON’T JUDGE ME, AND IF YOU HAVE NEVER SMOKED,WELL, YOU WON’T BE MUCH HELP EITHER,AS I ASKED FOR HELP,NOT OPINIONS!

Think of your grandchild and go cold turkey.
If your son-in-law is brave enough to fight for his country, the least you can do is make sure he’s got a healthy child to come back to? Ask for help from the GP around your area.

The best way to quit without stopping is to pretend that you stopped. Because then you will have actually stopped, but only in your mind.

You’re already on your way to quitting by a pack every three days! Set a date for a complete quit and make sure you’re ready for that date. Some assistance is necessary as you have to replace your habit with others. When you feel the need to smoke, exercise (like taking a walk, or playing with your grandchild); avoiding or preventing those things which cause you to smoke (like after a meal or with some coffee), and get some sugar-free gum, hard candy or other small snacks to hold back the cravings. Drink plenty of water, juices to replenish your system in order to detox completely. Good luck and best wishes!

Drown yourself in work , find a hoppy you love it and keep on doing it whenever you got the desire to smoke , if you couldn’t , don’t stay at home alone just go outside , talk to someone …

If you want to quit smoking long term and permanently you will need to first realize that whether you succeed or not has nothing to do with you personally as an individual. You need to realize that you will need to reach out and receive help from an effective support program while you are trying to quit otherwise you will eventually land into the category of quit smoking failure stories whose statistics currently stands at more than 95%. And you will need support that works which normally doesn’t include the kind of support that you get from family and friends. There are many options available it is just about choosing one that works for you and your lifestyle. Our company is involved in providing a method of support to quitting smokers but don’t let that cause you to negate the reality of this message. Check out any health site of any major organization and you can verify this for yourself. The reality is that if you use a support program you will quit smoking forever and if you don’t your chances at success are less than 5%.

You need some more courage and confidence. Decide firmly and quit. you are a father of a brave son. I am sure you can do it. I did after 40 years. You will need some time to get rid of ill effects of the smoking from the body. It takes about three years to be just normal.
    Just kill you desire.
