Will it hurt the baby if I exercise and eat healthy to lose a little fat?

I’m only a few weeks along, and I was just getting into a diet and fitness routine. I have dance exercise DVDs and I’ve been cutting back on my bad food choices (no soda, less sweets, etc). I’m not into extreme dieting, but I know that dieting of any kind while pregnant isn’t healthy. BUT… if I eat more healthfully than I do now and begin exercising, will I lose some fat, while maintaining a good calorie intake? I understand that it’s important to take the baby into consideration, but I’m worried that being 50 lbs overweight won’t be good either. I’m going to ask the doc about a diet plan, but just wanted to ask if anyone else had some experience with being overweight before pregnancy

You might want to ask your doctor that. That’s what he or she is there for to guide you through your pregnancy.

That last thing you need to do is try to loose weight during pregnancy! You should eat healthy, work out a little, and take a prenatal vitamin!

No, it absolutely will not hurt the baby. Eating healthy is a great idea at any time!!! Go a little easy on the exercise in the first trimester though. If you don’t normally exercise, start with walking at a nice pace for whatever amount of time is comfortable for you. Eventually you can build up on the exercise thing. I’m 36 weeks, and I have committed to staying healthy throughout my pregnancy. I try to go to the gym 3-5 times a week, and I do cardio for a total of 50 minutes. It has really helped me keep my weight within reason. It also gives me more energy and feel happier.

Keeping healthy will also help prevent against gestational diabetes!

You can do it! Good luck.

*Edit- obviously the person giving thumbs down does not believe in eating healthy and exercising. Hmmmm… I wonder how much weight they gain…?

you can do things like palate or yoga..light exercises though..and eat very healthy and a lot because the baby needs to be healthy. this way you can get rid of body fat easier AFTER pregnancy. i gained about 25 pounds and im almost 36 weeks. so you wont get enormous unless you eat a ton of unhealthy things which is bad for the baby also. talk to your doctor about it and ask for his opinion before anything. jus eat healthy and exercise and you should be fine (not too much though since you need to gain weight for the baby)
