What is a good medicine for knee pain and swelling?
I have arthritis, my knee swells and it becomes painful. I have been taking Aleve but I doesn’t work as well anymore. Does anyone know of a better medicine or maybe a better method of dealing with the symptoms?

Depending on whether this is just from arthritis or whether there is a gout component will depend on what you take. Some people are allowed to take ibuprofen (motrin/advil) for this depending on the status of their stomach (this can cause GI upset); they are still using low dose Celebrex for arthritis also. It might be time to talk with your doctor about the need to advance to stronger medication. Also, a walking program (although painful at first) has been shown to eventually reduce the pain, swelling and discomfort of arthritic knees. You might want to consider adding this also to your daily routine.

I have had injections of steroids in mine several times over the years which last for quite a long time. I have been taking Arthotec on prescription but now have to come off them. My husband takes Naproxin for his. You need to talk to your Doctor.
