What is a good alternative to sleep medicine?

Lunesta works, but I really dislike using medicine to do something my body should be able to do naturally.
Any home-remedies, or tricks you’re willing to share would be fantastic.

Well, any OTC sleep medicine could carry a big risk of addiction, so you want to be careful about those. If you’d like, there are popular and effective natural sleep aids that don’t have a risk of addiction.
There’s Melatonin, Valerian, Chamomile, Hops, L-Tryptophan, L-Theanine, Passionflower, and Scullcap (an herb).
You can try any one of those to help you sleep naturally.

Also, make sure you avoid sugar, caffeine, and exercise for at least 2-3 hours before you want to head to bed to eliminate other common possibilities of sleeping problems. If none of those help, it’s possible you may need to see a Sleep Specialist to see why you aren’t sleeping right, but most people don’t get to that point after trying some of these options. Good luck and I hope I helped!

I like to take a hot shower, drink warm milk, chill in my bed listening to some relaxing tunes or to a train sound (SleepAid records has a great one)

sign up for a pandora account [www.pandora.com] and there is an icon on the left index for genre searches (I like raggae -> ska/steady rock)

Go to SleepAid Records site [www.sleepaidrecords.com] and click on products. It costs 10 bucks, syncs to your itunes, and put it on your iPod.

dont experiment with many things at once.

    first try

    1) Melatonin – it is a natural hormone in our brain that regulates sleep. Used for jet lag, and correcting your sleep cycles, when they become out of whack
    (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melatonin)

    2) Herbs: nice cup of valerian tea or peppermint helps

    3) experts say to start turning down the lights before bed, to get ready

    4) keep consistent bedtime habits – they become routine and so does your sleep

    5) say your prayers – you dont want the “Enter Sandman” syndrome – metallica fan yah
