They will explain it properly to you when you join, but the basic principles are that almost all vegetables (not startchy veg like potatoes, swede, etc) are “free” so you can eat as many as you want. Then you add one or two calcium choices, e.g a portion of milk or cheese, then add two fibre choices, e.g. bread, cereal, etc.
You pick which kind of day you want to follow – either red or green. The red day means that meat and other protein is “free”. A green day means that pasta, potatoes, etc are “free”. Anything that you want to eat outside of the free food and the choices has a “syn” (or synergy) value. You can eat around 20 syns per day. This includes chocolate, sauces, and also gives you the option to eat potatoes on a red day or meat on a green day.
I know it sounds complicated now, but you get to understand it very quickly and it really does work. It makes you think about what you are eating and ask yourself if you eat one thing, can you eat something else later on?
For a better idea and some inspiration, why not buy the Slimming World Magazine. It is cheaper once you are a member, but it is full of recipes, success stories and low-syn treats.
I lost a lot of weight on Slimming World and enjoyed doing it and a lady I work with lost 5 stone on it and has kept it off for two years.
