How to reduce pot belly without dieting??

A person is 70 and a vgeterian. Raerly drinks beer. Enjoys a tot of whiskey 3-4 times a week. Manages a brisk walk almost every day for about 20-30 minutes.Enjoys food but has a small appetite. Bad habit, eats snacks before going to bed. Avoids fried and fatty foods. Genuine replies with a view to helping will be very much appreciated.

    You have to work out your abdominal muscles to strenghten them. Walking does not work your abdominals.

    I think you get to point in life where a pot belly is something that you’ve just got to live with. I dont think there is much you can do at that age and it sounds like they are doing as much as they can.

    Improved posture and be careful about the types of clothes you wear which accentuate your belly!

    ya gotta give up the whiskey completely and also give up sugar and all sweets–you will notice a huge change–do an alkaline diet–vegetables and raw milk etc. you most likely have worms my friend!

    Try and use a firming cream I used Roc cellulite cream and the appearance looked massively different. A tan also gives the illusion of a slimmer waist.
    If you get an exercise ball there are some low impact exercises that would help go on ebay and get the Gunnar Peterson DVD he specialises in this area. Good luck!

    dude, at seventy there’s not much to do, if he’s not going to alter his diet then you need to get him to burn more calories by either walking more or doing some other activities during the day. It’s obvious he’s not going to do sit ups or end up with a six pack, so I assume you’re trying to get him to loose a little weight off his belly. So that’s only going to happen by increasing his activity level.

I’m not sure that’s possible to do anything besides reducing the wiskey and late nite snacks. he’s 70 so I don’t recommend anything except diet and exercise. It looks as though he gets the exercise, so a diet is unfortunately a must 🙂 It’s really bad to eat before you go to bed. Most everything is stored as fat. I would bet that even cutting that out may have results over time. The wiskey drinking is also high calorie as well. You can’t have the best of both worlds. If I could eat cake for dinner 3 times a week and a candy bar every night before I went to bed, without getting fat, I would do it. Unfortunately I’m not 8 years old anymore. My metabolism is much slower than that..

    There’s a common misconception that you can get rid of your belly fat if you target that particular area with exercise. You won’t lose fat by doing that, you’ll just hide it better. He could always do some situps but I wouldn’t recommend straining yourself that much at 70.

    Simple add 10-15minutes to your walk to maximize the effects the first 20-30 minutes dont do that much you need them to get your body up and running all the time after about 20-30 minutes will bring tremendous results

    Exercise will strengthen the muscles but the small layer of fat will be there unless you work it off and eat less sugars. Building muscle through weight training will burn more calories all the time and should help with the fat too. Sounds like you need to make some very small adjustments in your diet and exericse at a bit higher level to get your heart rate into the fat burning range. Good luck!

    Sit ups won’t work – they merely strengthen the muscles underneath the pot belly, they won’t get rid of the excess fat around the area. It sounds like the snacking is their major downfall. As well as being unhealthy it stops you sleeping well. Try a hot drink instead.
