How many calories should teens eat to lose weight?

I’m 15 and want to lose some weight. My BMR is 1700 calories and people say to lose weight you should consume 500 less calories per day, but this would take me to 1200!!
I heard that teens need more because of growth, so im confused how many calories to consume.

I dont want anyone telling me that im too young to diet, I just want to know how many calories to consume in a day if i do moderate exercise?!?!

Listen all people of all ages. Losing weight is simple science. You have to intake less calories than you burn to lose fat. Simple as that, you could be an olympic swimmer, eat tons of terrible fatty foods and still lose weight because you’ve burned more calories than you intake.

It’s different for everyone, just eat what you want to and don’t even try to count. I counted mine once and it turns out I eat about 4000 calories per day, yet I’m 6″0 and only 137lbs. Also I barely exercise at all. Doesn’t make any sense. So my advice is to just wing it =)

Your BMR is the number of calories you’d burn if you were to lie in bed all day and not move. Take your BMR and google the Harris-Benedict equation. Choose the appropriate factor based on your physical activity level and multiply it by your BMR. For instance, if you’re working out moderately 3 or 4 times a week, you’d multiply 1700 by 1.55 for a total of 2635 calories. THIS is the number of calories you need a day to maintain your weight. Subtract 500 from that and you get 2135 – a much more manageable number.
