3 miles is nothing. It depends on the terrain, your weight and how fast you are going. Three miles in a day is about 100 calories. Cycling is very efficient means of transportation, if you want to burn calories to need to ride a lot further and faster.

It’s impossible to say for sure without knowing how much you weigh and how long you rode your bike. A guess would be 100 calories.

Three miles is a very short ride on a bicycle. If you are just starting out, then that is a good start. Try to work your way up to 5 miles. It doesn’t matter how fast you go, but try to go fast enough to feel that you have to work. When you finish a ride you should feel that you have really exercised your legs.

You might want to get a cheap bike computer that will keep track of your mileage and speed. That way you can keep a consistent pace each time you ride and you will know exactly how many miles you have ridden.

    Good Luck

That can only be answered if we know several variables; your weight, your average speed, and the amount of time actually spent riding. Then you can go to an online calorie calculator like this one http://www.bicycling.com/channel/0,6609,s1-4-0-0-0,00.html

and get an estimation of how many calories you burn. If you are on a mountain bike, not a serious rider, and are going only a short distance, you aren’t burning much at all. For example, if you weigh 120 lbs, ride between 10-12 mph for 15 minutes, you burn a whopping 82 calories. Crank it up and ride for an hour at 12-14 mph, and you’ll burn 436 calories.

If you are riding hard then you will burn about 800 cal per hour but if you are taking it easy then you will only burn about 250 cal per hour. If you want to burn calories riding your bike then you want to be doing much more than 3 miles per day.

I do rides which are either 26 miles, 42 miles or 63 miles each time but I also don’t use the excuse that because I exercise I can eat what I want I combine it with a healthy diet.
