How many calories are needed for a day of desk work?

I have a day job where I’m at my desk eight hours, and I was wondering, if I’d slowly like to lose weight, how many calories should I limit myself to in a day? I am female, just medium height.

    What’s your height/weight and what’s your goal?

    Calories burned sitting:
190 pounds- 108 cals per hour
150 pounds- 84 cals per hour
130 pounds- 72 cals per hour
110 pounds- 66 cals per hour

That is the bare minimum of what your body needs. Of course you will need more for the rest of your day. You will also burn more if you are naturally muscular or excersize.

There are lots of websites you can go to that will calculate your BMR. That’s your Basal Metabolic Rate, which is the amount of calories your body needs during the day to keep functioning, even if all you’re doing is sitting at your desk.

Just go here, enter in all your information and it will give you a good estimate of how much you burn during your day. Make sure what you consume is less than that number and you’ll be losing 🙂

    ***Edit***
I’ve also heard somewhere that if you can do something as simple as tapping your foot most of the day, you can burn up to 500 extra calories. I’m not sure how true that is, but hey, it can’t hurt.
