How long should I walk on the treadmill to lose weight quickly?

I’m 5 foot 5 and a half and I weigh 160lbs now which is terrible. I have been trying to lose weight or fat around my legs and butt (they are biggg) but it doesn’t seem to work much… well It probably does but it dosent get rid of the fat. so how long should I walk on the treadmill everyday to lose weight quickly? Also how much pounds would I be losing a day? thank you

I run on the treadmill every day for about 16 minutes. You should probably walk or jog every day for 15-20 minutes, but you probably won’t lose weight every day. You should start losing weight a couple weeks after you start.

You should avoid the treadmill because it is bad for your knees and hips. The even surface is hard on your joints. Walk outside because it’s better for you.

My best friend was pretty overweight, and she tried several times to diet and exercise over the years and would give up. Finally she had enough, and made changes in her every day life that made her lose a drastic amount of weight. She looked like a whole new person, it was awesome 🙂

Anyway, here are the biggest changes she made:

NO regular pop (soda). Only diet. She would always yell at me to stop drinking regular too lol. She says you are not only drinking away all your daily calories, but that they are also empty calories that do nothing good for you. Switching to diet alone will make a huge difference. Stay away from the heavy sugar/carb drinks. They are nothing but trouble for dieters.

Ground turkey and turkey burgers. She made that a lot. She said it was a lot healthier than ground beef and was all in all better for you. I tried it, its really not that bad.

She would snack on the 100 cal pack snacks, but really all they really are is a smaller portion. So you don’t HAVE to buy 100 cal packs. Just limit your sweet snack portion to a smaller amount. You can still eat snack foods. Just keep everything within moderation.

Exercise. You really don’t need vigorous exercise to lose weight. The key is to keep your heart rate up and going. Walking on the treadmil like you said in your question is perfect, and ideal. Keep it constant when you do – don’t walk for 5 minutes 5 times a day. Instead walk for a higher amount, less times a day. The more the better, but a nice steady amount could be 20 minutes consecutive, 3 times a day. As you start getting on track more, add to the minutes. Walking is an excellent way to lose weight. Not many would think so, because it’s not running or pushups or heavy biking lol. But really, it’s that heart rate. Keep it going, that is what will help you the best.

    Good luck!

Invest in a cross trainer, much better for getting your heart rate up, and that’s what you have to do to burn fat. 20mins on a cross trainer is is about equal to 45-60mins walking on a treadmill.

Boil your vegetables instead of cooking them, or even better, eat them fresh. However if you do not like eating your vegetables as it is, try steaming them without adding anything at all. This is probably the healthiest way to eat cabbages, cauliflowers and a host of other vegetables.
Carry parsley with you. Parsley is an excellent thing to munch on in between meals. Not just is it good for you in terms of vitamins, but it is also a perfect way of making your breath fresher.
