How healthy is a low carb diet?

Low carb dieting has worked for me in the past to lose weight, but I’m just wondering if it is healthy. When I go on it I don’t eat junk food meat like hot dogs and humburger beef, I eat more chicken, fish, and nuts. For fruits and veggies I eat the ones that have little sugar/carbs. The only thing I really miss out on is grains, but are they really that good for you anyways? What vitamins would I be lacking?

low carb dieting is fine. it IS healthy. The only thing is that you could eat better grains like brown rice and whole wheat stuff. Don’t dip too long in low carbs. To answer your question yea it is healthy to eat a low carbohydrate diet.

Carbohydrates are essential to the body. They are the main source of energy for your cells. While a diet doesn’t need to be high in carbs (unless you are an athlete) it doesn’t need to be low in them either. Grains are a source high in dietary fiber, the B vitamins, and antioxidants. It is recommended that half of your daily carb intake be from the grains group. So yes, grains are VERY good for you. As for the vegetables and fruits, I don’t think you need to worry much about the sugar and carbs coming from those because any way you look at it, fruits and veggies are more beneficial than not. As for the meat, it sounds like you have good choices for those 🙂

I thought people didn’t care about carbs anymore? Maybe your losing alot of weight when you go on a no carb diet because you aren’t eating alot of hot dogs and beef. Hot dogs and beef are REALLY fattening. Try just cutting out that stuff and see how your diet goes.
