You’re right – starving yourself is the reason why you gained a lot of weight. I hope you’ve learned your lesson.

In order to lose weight properly, you have to eat properly and exercise. Cut back on the starches and sugars (including fruit), and perhaps consider cutting out junk food alltogether for a little while. (And then gradually go back to eating it once a week.)

Eat plenty of protein (meat, fish), non-starchy vegetables, especially leafy green vegetables and broccoli, and complex carbohydrates (lentils, chick peas, brown rice, oatmeal).

Avoid large amounts of soy; soy slows your thyroid which in turn slows your metabolism, making it easy to gain fat. This means you should avoid processed, pre-prepared foods as soy is often used in large quantities in these, as a cheapo filler.

Don’t neglect eating fat; too little fat will make your body store fat, and it also messes with your central nervous system. Good sources of fat include fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, etc.), fish oil, olives, olive oil, nuts, avocadoes, coconut oil.

For exercise, mix resistance/weight training (muscle helps burn fat!) and cardio. A full-body resistance training can be done every other day, and you can do cardio 5-6 days a week.

First, there is nothing that can make you loose weight in your hip or belly area. You can’t target weight loss…no matter who tells you what, it’s not possible.

Eating an apple at night (or any other food for that matter) will not make you gain weight. Your body doesn’t know what time it is when you eat. It also doesn’t have the ability to say that after the cut off time anything you consume will become fat. Weight gain is caused SOLELY by eating more calories than you burn.

At your age and weight, you don’t necessarily need to diet (you have room to grow into your weight, which incidentally is not horrible). But the best and most long term way is to eat properly. Fresh fruits and veggies being the star of your meals is a great start. Drinking your 8-10 glasses (8oz glasses) of water each day, eating lean proteins, and getting fiber. And, this is important, eating the foods you LIKE…even junk food. The key is to eat it in moderation. I eat chocolate every day no matter what because I love it. I keep a bag of fun size dark chocolate in the pantry and eat two bars daily. I even eat chips or cake if I feel like it. I don’t deprive myself of anything. I am 30 years old and weigh 135-140 pounds. I go to the gym 5-6 days a week and take care of myself.

Of course you must be active! but it doesn’t have to be at the gym or even at a sport. If you don’t enjoy the activity, don’t do it!!! The point is to get your heart rate going and get off your duff!!! You can’t lose weight and hope to keep it off if you sit on the couch all day (though I doubt you do that as your height and weight suggest otherwise)

    1) Portion control is key. You can eat a lot of junk throughout the week as long as it is a reasonable portion. What you can do if you find yourself snacking is exercise.
2)While eating food after 8PM is never really advised – If it is an apple you should be fine as long as your regular diet and exercise are kept pretty good throughout the week (you should allow yourself one – two days of relaxation from a special diet/exercise routine) It also depends on how late you stay up on average. If you are eating and the sleeping immediately then the outcome is more negative, but if you are staying up for another hour or two then you really are fine.
3)The best way to lose weight is to switch of your routine every other day. On day one do cardio (everything from running – walking — if it gets your pulse racing for more than 30 minutes then its cardio). On day two do yoga/pilates. They each will strengthen your core muscles (abs, arms, and legs).

    * As something extra — If you need help with how much you eat/amount of calories you eat then you should really visit caloriecount.about.com/ because when you sign up (it’s free) you can set goal weight/calories and it will tell you an estimated date on which the weight should be off.

I hope I have helped you and good luck! Please remember that being safe in a diet is more important that it being fast, though. You are a bit young to be worried about weight but when i was your age i was too so I really hope that this helps you!

    Q #1:
.. What you can do- get more exercise, do things you enjoy like swimming, walking, dancing, biking, everything adds up.
..What you should eat (or shouldn’t)- Stick to fruits, veggies, and protein. Try not to have too m any carbs but make sure to keep them in your diet. Try not to have fast food alot, maybe once or twice a month, and drink LOTS of water..

    Q#2:
I dont really think it will make you “gain weight” if you eat at 4pm or 4am, its still the same calorie intake. By going to bed after you just wont burn it off as quick by sleeping.

    Q#3:
Cardio is good for the whole body. Running, swimming, dancing, ect. Cardio is known for helping slim down all areas of the body over time unlike for example, lifting weights means muscle gain in the arms and possibly some other areas. Oh yeah and doing some crunches and planks everyday will help.

Remember to be healthy about your diet. No starbing yourself!
    Good Luck!
