How am I losing weight so fast? Will I continue to lose a lot this fast?

New Years resolution was to lose 15 lbs and keep it off. Since monday I have quit drinking drinks w/sugar in it, I have also cut my meals into good portions to avoid over eating.

I’ve lost 5 pounds since then. Will I continue to lose it this fast? Or is it just water weight?

Started out at 156, I’m now 151. Goal is 140. I’m 5’6.

That awesome! I had a doctor tell me one time that if you cut out sodas from your diet completely, you should be able to lose 15 pounds in a year. Now since you are doing way more then cutting out sugar drinks, it sounds like you are on the right track. Keep it up and don’t lose faith!!

I’m guessing its water weight since you stopped drinking the usual. . . plus you dont lose fat when you start dieting you start losing muscle first. I suggest you exercise cuz you will gain it right back. very quickly too.

More than likely, you’ve lost water weight. Your weight loss might slow down. It’s also normal for your weight to fluctuate up or down a few pounds throughout the day, so I would only weigh yourself once a week to get a more accurate weight loss total. If you really want to lose weight, add some cardio to your plan.

Congratulations!!! As a veteran dieter, I’ve noticed that weight does indeed come off quickly at first. A lot of it really is water. However, if you keep up what you’re doing, along with some exercise, you can reasonably expect to lose about 2-3.5 pounds a week.

You’re off to a great start!!!

You should be drinking about 8 glasses of water everyday. If you are doing this you shouldn’t be losing water weight. By drinking more water, it will also help you lose more weight. Eventually your weight loss will plateau when your calorie burn = calorie intake.

You have made some really good choices so far, just make sure you’re balancing the healthy meals with a healthy lifestyle (i.e. exercising)

Very good but it will most probably slow down. If your body isn’t used to not eating fatty food ans not used to exercising then you’ll lose weight really quickly but then as your body adjusts, it will slow, but at that time you’ll probably have lost a good amount of weight.
Good luck, eat healthy and exercise! XOXO

You are doing fine. Even if your initial loss is water, you do not want to retain water, do you? You want the loss to be water if you need to get rid of water. You are eating well and you are eating healthy. I think that you are doing fine. I am not a doctor not a nutirionist but I am experienced in what can happen during dieting. As you get closer to your goal, you might find yourself stalling so ecpect it to slow down. Therefore plan on what you will do if and when this may happen.
