Does running really help you with gaining muscle?

Ok so i am starting to workout. I am sick of being scrawny and i want to get bigger. I have already found a good workout with upper and lower body using weights of course. But i also hear and see the phrase “Run a lot!” But does running really help with gaining muscle? i mean i dont need to lose any fat or weight. in fact i pretty much have no fat to lose. And I’m not trying to be a huge body builder, I just want to be lean and muscular, so is running really worth it to get bigger?

Running helps you lose a lot of weight. But if you really want to gain weight then use weights, and hit the gym. Just do a lot of leg work. But dont forget to alternate between working the legs and working other parts. Otherwise you might put too much stress on your bottom half.

It depends how you run. If you jog then it isn’t going to help you build muscle, but if you run intervals or just hard enough that you sweat, run into oxygen deprivation and generally push yourself then the stress will cause your body to release growth hormones.

For this reason you might want to try sprint training on your off days from weight training. This will help to ensure that during your building phase of muscle growth from the weights there is a fresh supply of growth hormones.

Don’t spend lots of time running, but the great thing about sprint training is that it doesn’t take more than ten to twenty minutes and so doesn’t need to interfere with your rest period
