What is a good form of exercise for a slimmer waist?

I have a pretty broad waistline. And I’m obviously not too happy about it. I don’t have a paunch, except for a tiny bit of lower stomach flab. Nothing seems to help to make my waist slimmer. What can I do to make it better? I walk around 15 kilometres a day, does this help?

you need to do more aerobic and cardiovascular exercise. Get your heart beat up….treadmill, swimming, running…walking is good but not enough.

The walking helps. There is no exercise that will just slim your waist alone, you either loose weight all over your body or not at all, so walking, running, swimming, cycling, rowing, basically any cardio exercize. Walking is perfectly fine, as long as you cover a good distance. In a mile walk vs a mile run, you obviously exercize more running, but you’ll be walking for a longer period of time and in the end, there isn’y a huge difference in the benefits you get, so walking is almost as good and if it’s all you can do it’s better than nothing.

Try situps or crunches with your feet elevated of the ground a little in sets of 20 if you can handle that, then follow that by staying in a semi crunched postion, and grab a 6, 8 or 10 kg weight or ball and swing from side to side around 10 to 20 times, then follow with more situps and keep alternating, 3 sets of each should be a good start

Also for core stability exercises, the ultimate way to lose weight and sulpt a perfect figure, look into core stability exercises with the Core Master ‘Serge’ in the fitnessgp.com ladies blog http://fitnessgp.com/blogs/serge/fit-chick-the-specialized-womens-blog/
and in the fitnessgp.com hard to the core core section http://fitnessgp.com/blogs/serge/hard-to-the-core-core-stability-blog/

Hope this helps, thanks from Josh

Hi. The fat in your body is stored pretty much everywhere. Only difference is that some areas store more than others. When you eat healthy and exercise then the fat starts to go away and the areas which have a little bit of fat lose a little and the areas with lots of fat lose more. So proportionally your body cuts down fat, so you don’t look funny (imagine if only fat from one arm would go and the other would not).

So if you understand that then you will understand that it is impossible to lose fat in any particular part of your body. You need (if you want to achieve your goals) to be healthier and be more active so you shed fat from your body and the sides will go away together with other stored fat.

On top of the above, if you walk 15 km every day then your body will get used to it and come to the point where you benefit nothing from it. This is why you have to do different activities so your body does not become efficient with one.

Check out my site, there are several articles that can help you achieve your goals. If you are serious about what you want then you will definitely benefit from reading those articles.

Honestly any activity helps. Don’t let anyone kid you on that. If you cut your calories, by about 3500 a week, you’ll lose about 1 pound a week without exercise…..from what I’ve read. I have pretty much come to the realization that you cannot lose your tummy without decreasing your total body weight. Spot training does not work.

I think weight training gives the best results!
I am 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighed 180 pounds in October of 2006. I have been lifting weights a couple of days a week and have been trying to walk a little extra everyday. I’m now 158 pounds about a year and a half later. I am not bulky and you will not be either………people who say that it will make you bulky do not know what they are talking about. Women have about 1/3 the testosterone in their bodies that a man does. This is the hormone that is directly related to gaining bulk. So unless you plan on becoming a hard core body builder, then I wouldn’t worry about bulking up.

I also recently started doing the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD. It is a combination of cardio, strength and abs. Each session is only about 20 minutes, but it is high intensity. I really think that it is helping to burn more calories. Try it. It only costs $15 at most retail stores and I love it.

Also try pilates….it focuses on your core muscles (stomach and back) and helps improve flexibility.

    Hope my rambling helps!

Cardiovascular exercise is the best for losing weight from the waist. Things like jogging, cycling and swimming. But mix them up a little as well because you’re body will get used to doing just one type and you won’t get the full benefit. Build yourself up to doing these types of exercises 3 times a week, ie. one day swimming, one day jogging, one day cycling, and you’ll soon see and feel the benefit.

Carry on with the walking as well though. Its very healthy for you but it won’t help you to shift much weight, especially as you are already so used to doing it.
