The best way to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight is through changing your eating habits and exercising regularly.

    1. Choose whole grains.

    2. Drink plenty of water.

    3. Choose lean meats and fish.

    4. Know the portion sizes for your calorie target.

    5. Limit fats to an average of 15 grams per meal.

    6. Choose fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible.

    7. Work out for no less that 45 minutes, 4-5 days a week.

    8. Select foods with less than 3 grams of fat per 100 calories.

    9. Choose pretzels, baked chips, fat-free popcorn instead of fries and chips.

    10. Avoid foods with partially hydrogenated oils, trans-fats and high-fructose corn syrup.

    11. Choose cereal, bread, crackers or chips that contain 2 or more grams of fiber per 100 calories.

    12. Choose fat-free or low-fat variety of foods especially when it comes to dairy products (milk, cheese, and yogurt).

losing 2 kgs in 3 – 4 weeks is well doable.

I presume you want to train before doing the tornament? In that case, I would try to minimise eating “bad” carbohydrates like white pasta, white rice and white bread, and instead opt for wholmeal grains which are low G.I and therefore will sustain you longer for the day. I find that white bread, pasta and rice all make me more hungrier, so I try and stick to whole grains

The general recommendations for a male at your age and weight would reccommend you to consume 2100 calories a day in order to lose weight. If you decrease this amount, you will lose more weight. I suggest eating only when you are slightly hungry, and only eating enough till you are not hungry anymore. I do not reccommend waiting till you are absolutley starving, because then you will be more likely to eat excess amounts as in impulse response to your hunger. I know that by doing so, one will eat much less than their recommended calorie “intake”. But I think it is important to listen to YOUR body, not 100% what doctors say. Humans are programmed to eat when they are hungry (a signal from the brain), so eating only what is needed will make you lose a few pounds.

Try to decrease the amounts of healthy food that are loaded with calories, such as nuts, full-fat dairy products, coconut milk and avacados. I eat, for breakfast usually a bowl of fruit salad. It is high in energy, yummy, healthy, low in calories and keeps me going till about lunch time. For lunch, I would eat a large vegetable-only salad. If my body tells me I need Iron (I usually get a bit dopy without protein or iron) I would add smoked fish or a boiled egg. Sometimes my body tells me I am in need of whole-grain carbohydrates, as I get this weird hunger sensation. In that case, I would add a bun to my salad, or crotouns.

I understand that at 15, you most likely live with adults who cook for you. In that case, I would eat lots of salad, a 50g portion of protein and a 50 gram portion of carbohydrates. I understand that you are also a young male who excersizes and attends a high school, so if you are hungry, eat! Food is good for you when you are hungry

cardio (movement) excersize also uses up stored calories. burning 3500 calories is equivelant to one pound (500 grams).

So Ive done some calculations with a fake eating plan, of what I ate today to show you how you can calculate your progress:

I am a female, who does light excersize, so my calorie intake is quite low. I use a calculator on about.com to calculate how much calories a certain excersize burns, and how much calories I have consumed. Although it seems quite a “small” diet, I did not starve in the process.

breakfast: One bowl of fruit salad – 300 calories
Lunch: One bowl of salad with dressing – 166 – calories
Dinner: 50 grams rice with vegetables – 250 calories
Snacks: 2 sweets (liquorice) + 2 peices dark chocolate 120 calories
    Total calories consumed: 836

    Calories burnt:
Natural calorie burnt (sleeping, organ production) – 1440
    Cardio: (dance, run) – 110
    Total calories burnt: 1550

Total calories consumed minus calories burnt = 664

At a rate of 7 multiply 664 I will have approximately “lost” 4648 calories from my weight within a week. Agreeing that 3500 calores equates to one pound means that i would have lost 1.3 pounds in a week, which equals approximately 500 gram. If you want to lose more weight, you would need to make sure you do more cardio excersize and / or consume more calories.

However, even if you have lost 2 kgs by the tornament date, you may need to eat only a little bit before the wrestling match. Make sure you eat a small portion of protein and low g.i carbohydrates to ensure that you perform well. Also make sure you only eat a small meal before the night, because if you eat too much, this will add on your weight.

On the other hand, you could try and eat more to gain weight instead.
