How many times a week should i be running to try to lose some weight?

I try to run everyday of the week, and when i miss a day, i feel like everything i eat is just making me gain so much weight. Is it okay not to run everyday? Will i actually gain weight the days i eat and don’t run?

You are only going to lose weight if burn more calories than you eat. The average adult needs about 2000 calories per day (more for men) and more if you are very active. To lose a pound a week means under-eating by 3500 calories a week or 500 calories a day. You can achieve this either by reducing your daily calorie intake by 500 calories or by burning off an extra 500 calories a day or a combination of both.

As an example, if you weigh 60 kg = 132 lbs and if you jog for an hour you’ll lose about 450 calories.
You can calculate how many calories you burn depending on activity, weight and time using this calculator:

Therefore to answer your question I think an hour’s jogging 3-4 times a week along with a reduction in your daily calorie intake by about 20% (400 calories) will certainly help you lose about 1 pound a week. If you want faster weight loss it means further reducing your calorie intake and increasing the exercise you do.

As you can see weight loss isn’t easy and every extra chocolate bar you eat (150 – 300 calories) means an extra half hour of jogging to burn off!
