How many calories does swimming burn compared to other cardio?

The calorie counters on the machines I’ve used tell me that rowing burns the most calories, then the stair climber, then the treadmill, then the eliptical, and then the stationary bike (if those calorie counters are accurate). How many calories do I burn swimming compared to those other activities? A coach I know told me that swimming doesn’t burn very many calories because the cool water prevents the body from heating up the way it does with other activities, is he right?

Calories is a big subject when it comes to weight loss. We need to know 3 definitions: the number of calories in our food, the number of calories a certain activity uses up every 60 minutes, and last but not least our own personal daily limit of calories. The sole thing that clearly showed results for me was wu-yi tea, it can be seen in the resource box underneath, they have a small number of free trials in stock, it was highlighted in Reader’s Digest and USA Today. I worked off twenty five pounds, it clearly does produce results!

Don’t count on those machines. Running burns the most. Swimming is great all over body and low impact.

You will not burn much swimming as compared to running, which in my opinion is the best, but hard on the knees. Having said that it does depend on how you swim. I am a 51 yo male, 175pds, 5′ 11” of athlectic build. I swim 2/3 times a week and tend to warm up with three sets of 10 lenghts of freestyle (with tumbleturns) in a 25m pool at 50%. I then do a faster set of 10 at 70%. Now, here comes the burn … 2x100m at 90% finishing with a 50m power swim. Believe me – it works. Other men my age by comparison can’t match me as most are flabby, or grey, bald, etc. Good hunting.
