Muscle memory will play a huge role here. If you were a top swimmer, you probably also have some genetics on your side. I would say it can take anywhere from 3-6 months to get back to that peak level of fitness. Remember, dont push it. rest when you need it. Lucky for you, your at that age where your recovery time is awesome and you should be really receptive to lean muscle mass gains. eating a good diet will also help get you on the fast track to success.

It depends on how unfit you are and how determined you are to get fit again. But at age 17 you have youth on your side.

It takEs however long you make it. you could sit around and think “I’ll go to the gym another day” every day, or u could exercise everyday and watch what you eat. I am about the same age as you are, and this past September when I got back to school, I saw a friend I hadn’t seen all summer. When school dismissed in June, he was about 250 pounds. About 2 months later at age 16 height ‘5 “4 he returned to school at 115 pounds. This is a very true story that I wish more people knew about. Work hard for what you want… If you don’t work for it, You can’t really want it. Some things to get you started: watch your calories! Also take long distance runs. If you feel long runs are boring, try shot distance sprints(30 or 40 yards). You should also try weights. If you feel weights are hurting your joints or are dangerous, try push ups and sit ups. If you cannot do a bunch if push ups, try wall push ups. That’s self explanatory. When u feel the wall is too easy try a table until you get to the floor. As for swimming just kep on swimming swimming swimming. Go whenever you possibly can for as long as you possibly can. Hope it helped!
