How do you lose weight if you have to eat less and exercise more and compensate for the calories burned?

Just curious, but if you have to eat to lose weight, do you really lose weight? Obviously you need to eat less but why do they say to eat at a certain caloric intake?

I am trying to lose weight and I was informed that I need to take in 1001 calories a day. I ate 768 calories and burned 587 calories at the gym. Either way, I ate more than I burned. Can I still loose weight.

I am 5’5 145.

the whole point is to slow your metabilism down, so you eat reguarly but the foods you are consuming are LOW FAT not high in calories, anything high in calories takes longer to break down and digest cuasing you to gain weight and fat. the excersize helps build muscles

You do need to take in less calories than what you burn to lose weight but, it’s not really that necessary to count the calories of everything you eat. That would make losing weight hard work. To lose weight here’s my suggestion:
Eat more of fresh vegetables. fruits and raw nuts. They’re great for burning fats. Eat breakfast which is high in fiber and low-fat(e.g. oatmeal with skim milk); low-fat yogurt is good also and you can add a fruit if you like. Don’t skip meals, specially breakfast, skipping breakfast would slow down your body metabolism and make you burn calories less.

Avoid saturated fats. Avoid food and drinks high in sugar. Sugar pumps the pancreas to release insulin. To much sugar means to much insulin which makes the body store fat.

Exercise for at least 30 minutes(1 hour is better) 5-6 days a week. Exercise not only burn calories but speeds up body metabolism making you lose weight even when at rest.

Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Drinking plenty of water can make you eat less.

Dang thats a really small at of calories. You should eat at least 1200 cals per day. But yea, to address the 2nd part of the question, there is this thing called your BMR which is the amount of calories that you burn by simply living. You can Google a BMR calculator. Add your BMR to the amount of cals you burn by working out, and when you have this number, just make sure that the amount of calories that you consume is at least 500 calories less. This way, you will FOR SURE lose at least a lb a week.(At the absolute least!!! But it’ll prob be way more in your case) So yea…it’s fairly simple. Also drink a crapload of water because it’ll help flush out the fat that youre burning 😀 Good luck. If you do this, you wont have to be restricted to a diet and will definately get results. 😀

    Hi,
First, your calculations are off track. You surely burn many calories aside from the gym – in every day activities. But the problem lies elsewhere: when you reduce your calories intake (and by the way 1001 is way too low) you also reduce the amount of necessary nutrients like vitamins, minerals, fiber, protein. This is the main reason why most diets fail! You should eat at least 3 meals a day, with all the necessary nutrients with reduced calories. The only way I know that allows you to do it the right way is by Herbalife Weight loss program. I am an Herbalife distributor. I have a lot of experience. You can actually see one of our customers who lost 82 kg (180 pounds) with our program at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jy35Khb1_cY. His name is Adi. He speaks Romanian but you can see him speaking and his picture before (at 166 kg=365 pounds). You can also see me as his personal coach.
