You MUST be treated!!! It can cause a bad vaginal infection! And the eggs can live outside the body for 2 weeks so everyone around you will get it too!
One or two chewable pills prescribed by a doctor is all it takes but you’ll need to be checked for vaginitis too & it can actually cause appendicitis, urinary tract infections, etc.

Clean your whole house of any dust and dirt (make sure not to miss light switches, door handles, taps etc)
Wash all sheets, towels and pjs.
Cut your nails down as short as you can.
Wash your hands with soap and hot water before every meal and after you go to the toilet.
Where underwear and pjs in bed to stop your scratching your anus area and spreading infection.
Keep hands away from the mouth!!
Be strict with personal hygiene e.g. have a shower every day (mornings would be best as worms come out at night and any eggs they may have laid can be washed away in the morning to avoid recontamination) make sure you wash your anus area in particular.
Change underwear every morning and night and wear clean pjs to bed.
Really just try your best to be clean as you can for a whole 6 weeks. This is the life span of the pinworm and they will die and the cycle will stop. However, if personal hygiene is not kept very strict recontamination is easy and you will continue to be infected.
However!
I would strongly advise medicine as it’s easy to take (one tablet now and another in two weeks time) and kill worms almost instantly as the second tablet is just incase of recontamination – but you still HAVE to take it! More importantly, when you buy pinworm treatment everyone in your household must take the tablets too. What would be the point in staying clean if someone else was just going to decontaminate you?
Pinworms are nothing to be ashamed of. I know they’re not a very nice thing to have but everyone has had them at least once in their life whether they know it or not. They are extremely easy to catch no matter how clean you are. So I’d advise at least telling your doctor (or going to the pharmacy) so you can have treatment but if you want to be sure their gone then tell anyone else in your household. 🙂
