How do I lose weight in my lower half without looking like a total skeleton in my upper half?
I have a typical pear shape and it is very difficult to lose weight without looking sickly up top. But I’ve been on a diet to lose some extra pounds, and already have lost a ton, but my lower half is still so huge in comparison to my upper half. Are there any good exercises that will target my butt and thigh areas in particular?

it’s a well known fact that you can’t really target certain areas of your body for weight loss…that’s why it’s called a pear shape because certain people have that shape NATURALLY. the only thing you can really do is do a bunch of cardio (if your arms don’t have much fat on them, there isn’t too much that would be disappearing right?) and the cardio will help you lose any fat you have and you can also make sure you do upper body strengthening which could help make sure you still have enough up top (don’t worry it won’t make you bulky). It’s really hard though because even doing cardio, you usually are using your legs (running, elliptical, biking) so you could end up getting more muscle mass in your legs anyways but muscle helps burn fat so your best bet is to just lose as much fat as you can (which seems like it would mostly come from lower half) and make sure you do strengthening up top to balance everything since cardio alone would build up your lower part somewhat, but there’s nothing wrong with being TONED 🙂

Squats, they work. Also, lunges. Do them slowly, very slowly, until they burn. The slow movements make the mitochondria in your muscle react or something and build lean muscle, not bulky, that will burn fat and leave your lower body looking awesome. Good luck.

Actually, your body decides where it wants to lose weight. There are varies of exercises that target certain areas, but once you start losing weight, your body is going to decide.
Squats do wonders for your butt & your thighs. It would help a lot if you’d let us know your eating habits first. I mean, are you eating the right things in a day? Hmm, maybe if you’d be a little bit more specific It would be easier to answer..
& it depends on your body shape, like you said, you basically have the ‘pear’ figure..But are you refering to your body build or is it obviously a fatty area?
Okay, so..Walking is probably the BEST thing you could posibly do for you body, along with eating healthier.

Exercises like walking, jogging, bicycle, the stairs, these all target your core to help you burn fat, they do target the areas you want in a certain way because they are the ones moving mostly. also you should drink a lot of water through out the day, don’t fill up on it, but stay well hydrated. Also you should eat lots of fruits and veggies. Cut out red meat and stick with fish & chicken for daily protein

Oh man, I hear you. I have a pear shape, too, and even through training for a marathon I couldn’t get my hips and legs smaller. I can have 36″ hips and my sternum and ribs will show through.
I gave up hoping for a different body shape after marathon training. I figured that if I can run 20+ miles at once, my legs weren’t going to get any smaller. You were born a pear – you will stay a pear. If you gain weight you will be a bigger pear. If you lose weight – small pear. At least it’s better than an apple shape, eh? Both for cardiovascular health and attractiveness.

I was overweight all throughout high school, and couldn’t really pinpoint what the problem was. I tried to eat right. I tried to exercise at least 3 days per week. I tried to limit my calorie intake. None of this seemed to produce any noticeable results. Well, it’s been four years since high school, and I’ve just recently found a program that I have successfully lost 55 pounds with! Sound impossible? Think again… they guarantee your success, and if you follow the program, I do too. They offer helpful tips right on there front page! Here’s the link:

Losing weight and getting fitter is really quite simple. All you have to do is a few simple things. Firstly, clear your fridge of fatty junk foods. If there’s no temptation, you cannot fall. Secondly, stock up on watermelon and other fruits. Watermelon is excellent because it clears out your digestive system of toxins and waste, leaving you feeling and being healthier. Next, begin exercising every day. Do not go too hard. If running, don’t go fast or uphill, unless you want bulky muscle. A steady pace each day for a minimum of 30 minutes will allow you to shed fat and tone your body. Set a day each week when you each junk food, but try not to go overboard and ruin the work of every other day. Drink plenty of water, often when you think you are hungry, you are actually thirsty. If you are getting cravings, have a glass of water, wait 5 minutes, and then see if you still want food. This usually gets rid of those nasty afternoon hunger pangs for me!
Good luck, and I hope you get the results you want!!
