How common is it to have a healthy baby while taking cocaine occasionally during pregnancy?
A woman i know gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby. Once or twice a month she would go out drinking and take cocaine while she was pregnant. How is it possible that she had a healthy baby?

And just because the baby’s healthy now doesn’t mean that s/he won’t have a ton of problems because of the alcohol and cocaine later on… just might not be noticeable quite yet.

Just because the baby is healthy now doesnt mean it couldnt have something wrong further down the road. Thats horrible to do while pregnant and people are taking major chances doing that. I guess the lady is just blessed nothing is wrong with her baby.

shes an idiot and doesnt deserve any baby, she should be reported and the baby taken away!!! odds are that if she was taking it during pregnancy she is probably abusing it now therefore should be seen as unfit

when i had my daughter in 2005 a woman in the bed next to me had her baby but she was on the special care baby unit (SCBU) she claimed that she only took cocaine once a month. the baby spent 3 weeks in SCBU and was very ill, plus she had to go through the detox.. poor baby aye..

I saw this on TV last night. The baby was born at 29 weeks and tested positive for cocanine as well as the mother. It was immediatly (after nicu) put in foster care. They said she’d have to fight for custody, and prove a good enough mom.

There might be underlaying problems that the doctors havent found, especially if they werent advised of her behaviour. Which im guessing they havent because it sounds like she still has her baby. I pray for the babies sack that she is healthy and that her mother stoped this behaviour!!

Just because it SEEMS healthy doesn’t necessarily mean it is. Some effects of drug use can show up later in life. Eventually her mistakes will catch up with her.

I no idea but I just hope her having a baby will make her stop.And if you take cocaine please don’t think you will get a healthy baby too.
I use to know someone who is a heroin addict. She has 4 kids now, She was using with all 4 kids. All 4 kids DO NOT live with her, they were taken off her due to her drug use.
The 1st, 3rd and 4th were all healthy and ok.
The 2nd was born prematurely and addicted. I went to see him in the ward and he was having uncontrollable shakes and sneezing and had to be pumped full of tablets to get him withdrawned off it.
It horrible thing for any child to go through,
If you take drugs then you should take birth control to prevent this happening to any child.

She got lucky… maybe the baby could develop problems later on, when the babies older he/she could have learning or disciplinary(sp.) problems. Thats awful that she would put her baby in danger like that, i hope she’s smartened up since having the baby.

it is possible, heroin doesnt cause any long term effects on a baby in the womb, but you risk having a misscarraige if you go into withdrawals. women who use coke while pregnant generally have babies with low birth weights-meaning smaller organs….the alcohol is the thing that causes serious harm to a baby. it causes physical and mental deformities in the fetus. it is very serious when a pregnant woman is drinking while pregnant…

It’s possible to do drugs and drink while pregnant and have a healthy baby. I think it’s stupid for anyone who knows they’re pregnant to do so, but to each his own.

Ya the babys healthy now but probally will take a lot longer to learn to walk, talk and may even have sever learning disabilities!!

for the rest of the babys life she should be worried every step of the way, learning difficulty’s, heart problems and even later on things like the babys fertility, whatever happens to that child even if its as little as getting colds more often than other children she will have to live with the fact that it was probably her fault!
