Has anyone done the atkins diet and how much weight did you lose?

I’ve just started phase 1 of the Atkins diet but need some honest feedback off REAL people who might be doing or have done the diet before, including how much weight lost, side effects (and how you tackled them) and any other issues you’d like to include. Thanks xxx

Hi, I know quite a few people who have been on the Atkins diet, they lost a lot of weight, but the weight piled on once they started to eat normally, also their breath smelt terrible.

my parents decided to do this together, my dad lost 2 stone and my mum lost just over 4 stone and they have eaten more fruit and veg since being on it as they have it with every meal.
They did not have any side effects. Once they found out just what their carb in take was for a day to keep stable and not go over it and gain more weight they have managed to maintain their ideal weight for just over three years now.
They did not fry anything except eggs everything else was grilled oven baked or poached or steamed for veggies.
The only problem they did have was going out to eat as everything came with potatoes or chips so they had to ask not to put them on the plate just extra salad.
    Good luck

I have never done the Atkins diet. I know many people who have done it and have lost a lot of weight and then put it straight back on plus more.

Lastly, just to remind you that Dr.Atkins died from a head injury (accident)
But they also found that he was seriously overweight and had a dangerous amount of fat cholesterol clogging his arteries. So I would recommend that find a more healthier way to eat.

hi i did atkins for about a month last august. i lost about 16 lbs with practically no exercise. i stayed on phase one though. however after i stopped i piled on the weight again plus more.im not sure whether this is unavoidable, i just went back to my old terrible eating habits. i wouldnt reccomend it. its very unhealthy. i now have 4 stone to lose and i know it will take me prob 3 months longer but im doing it the healthy way this time. 1200 cals, lots of fruit and veg and exercise. i just would prefer if i have to go on a diet to get healthy as well, and also to be able to keep the weight off. but i guess its a personal call.

Doing it at the moment – lost about 10lbs in the first two weeks (Induction). No real side effects (have been taking extra fibre and vitamin tabs). Still have milk in coffee which is supposedly not allowed – but only a splash. Should do more exercise and don’t drink anything like what they recommend, but it still seems to be working.

I used to be fond of pastry and high carb foods – I am hoping if I can avoid going back to those in time I should be OK. If you are seriously overweight getting it off is rather more important than worrying about the side effects – the mistake most people make about the Atkins is all about the first 2 weeks – its not and you can go back to having fruit and grains in time.
