I could be wrong but I think it works this way. The stretch marks come if you lose the weight in a bad way very quickly such as a harsh diet or surgery. If you work out and have a healthy diet then your body is not just losing the weight but also building muscle so you are less likely to get stretch marks. I could be wrong but I think it works this way.

    No to more stretch marks…
You get those when you gain weight, not when you loose it. If your body grows too fast, the skin doesn’t have time to adjust and it stretches creating marks. Stretch marks are also not always a sign of gaining weight, they can be a result of fast growth in children.

Yes to loose skin, I’d say.

And, no, I’d say it’s not healthy at all to lose a lot of weight fast.

I don’t know about the loose skin or the stretch marks, but I know that it’s healthy for them to lose weight that fast. It’s healthy, but it’s not realistic. No one who works, has kids, goes to school, etc. would be able to lose weight that quickly. They’re loosing it fast because 1. It’s a television show. 2. They’re not leading ordinary lives at the Biggest Loser ranch; they’re working out 6 hours a day and living on 800-1600 calories everyday. They don’t have kids to worry about or a job they need to work at, they’re there to lose weight. and 3. They are constantly supervised by doctors, dietitians, etc. Plus they’ve got 2 of the best trainers in the world. This is not realistic for people at home, but on the show, it’s completely safe.

They will get more lose skin that others because they’re losing weight far too quickly for their skin to react. Stretch marks are from when your skin is stretched out too quickly, not when you lose weight, so they are at no higher risk for getting stretch marks than anyone else of comparable weight.

As for losing it that fast, they are under constant medical supervision which you don’t see. 1-2lbs per week is the healthy rate. Losing much more than 2lbs per week can cause a strain on your liver (as it works to break down the fat and get rid if it) and gallstones to name a few things. Unless you’re under the supervision of a doctor who has specifically told you it’s ok to lose more than 2lbs per week, you should not be attempting to do so.

Diet, diet, diet….Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated and help the body eliminate toxins, eat tons of antioxidant rich foods, i.e. colorful vegetables and fresh fruits, and take an Omega 3 supplement or eat lots of cold water fish. If you are doing these three things while balancing muscle building & aerobic exercise your skin will shrink with your body. EVEN if you are losing weight fast!
