Can you give some dieting inspiration?

I’ve lost 6 lbs this week (my first week) on the slimming world diet. I’m finding it hard but I’m determined to succeed. I’ve upped my activity levels (I’ve cycled 40 miles this week!). What do you do when you find yourself having a weak moment, when you’re tempted to have something you shouldn’t?
Thanks for your kind words and support LORRAINE, but as a man, i’d prefer to leave out the lipstick! x

I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
    1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
    2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
    3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.

It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.

Also start counting your calories. Write them down. You would be amazed as to how much more aware you are of your caloric intake, if you actually write it down. We recently discovered a site that offers a great program that counts calories, as well as keeps track of everything. It allows multiple users, so everyone in the family can keep track. They offer a free 7 day trial, and so far I am very impressed with the product. Try the 7 days and see. It allows you to add the exercise that you do during the day, which increases the amount of calories you can take in. Very Cool!!

Stay motivated, and get up and walk every day. I seriously lost all my weight starting off my day on my walk.

    Good LUCK!

First of all well done. I wish I had your determination to lose weight. You should be proud of yourself.
If you have a weak moment you should have something in the fridge which would help you go through that. For example, have carrot sticks ready or low calorie yoghurt, something like that. It will help you beat that weak moment.

Pick the phone up when tempted, or visit someone. There is nothing like being/working with others to help take your mind off things like temptation.

have a candy bar only once a week, and drink plenty f water. if you are spoiled and don’t like the taste of water, get gatorade or something, stay away from those diet pills, drink red bull rockstar or amp if you’re very active, but be careful, they can hurt you!

First of all, great job! 6 lbs is great!
One of the things i do is set myself a goal, for example buying a pair of jeans in a size smaller than i usually buy. Each week i try to wear this pair of jeans, and each time they feel easier to put on i feel much for elevated! I don’t walk around in them purposely as not to stretch them out. So when I’m reaching for that chocolate bar, i think about how much better those jeans will fit, and i quickly realise it’s not worth it. :)Good luck

Frist of all I wanna to say Congulations, I know it not easy which I am also in a weight program I also do struggle everyday of my life and I am sure that I will never stop struggling cause we all do in life.. There has been time when I would feel that I need something so bad cause either I’m bored or hungry or whatever.. I would always try to do something else like watching TV, Read a book, talking on the phone or something that would keep me away from wanting to eat too much or wrong kind of food..
If you feel you need to eat choclate or whatever that fine but watch out the portions.. And since you lost that much I can understand you would feel great so why not go and buy something for yourself like a reward or something.. I have had lost like 22 pounds and it took me one year to get there so beleive me it won’t be easy but it worth it at the end also I learn is that don’t worry what happen if you dont think you did great or have bad tempted on something and did it then dont worry cause you can always start over.. Hopes this help

hi the first few weeks are the hardest ,you will soon get into a routine but dont expect to lose that all the time ,my trouble in the past i have aimed to high and if i have only lost a pound it put me off ,the truth though after the first week expect to lose a pound or 2 anything more ,brilliant . in my weeker moments i go have a bath ,come on here and talk ,phone someone and i go to bed early cause evenings are my worst time ,its hard but think of the summer how good you will look and even as something as simple as a new lipstick or something like that will make you happy you wont need that chocolate bar xx

Congratulations on your weight loss!! I know how hard it is 🙁 But keep it up, its hard in the first few weeks because you feel you have lost no weight so it doesn’t matter if you drop off the wagon – but keep at it! Phew! 40 miles?! that’s further than I go in a year lol

Can I ask, how much do you need to lose to reach your target weight?

I find that everytime I feel low, I remind myself of how much I’ve lost and how silly it would be to undo all that hard work. Take a picture of yourself every week – as the weeks build up and you see the change, you’ll find your motivation sky rockets! Its so easy to not see the difference you’re making as its such a slow transition!

(Also as a shameless promotion of Paul McKenna, I find his book called “I can make you thin” really helped me, it just sort of changes how you think and I felt it motivated me. I know everyone’s different, but if you can find it cheap, it’s worth a read.)

And remember, its not a race. You’ll have weeks where you put on a couple of pounds sometimes, and remember the fact that you might not lose all the time. When you do have a bad week, remind yourself that you knew some weeks would be a trial and that you can either mope, or be proud of what you’ve already lost. I’d choose to be proud 🙂

Best of luck with your loss, you’ve already done the hard bit – which is changing in the first place 🙂

I do different things, you could clear out that old cupboard you’ve been meaning to tidy all year or go for a walk (or out on your bike). Don’t buy any junk food although I know thats not always possible if you have a family…. Maybe get out in the garden if its at a weekend, or if its in the evening just have sex! It stops the craving gives you a great hormone rush win win all round really!
