can you get stretch marks from losing weight?

i know people get stretch marks when their skin is stretched by gaining weight,muscle or getting taller but how do people get them from losing weight?

    Stretch marks are a result of the skin stretching to accommodate new layers of fat.. you don’t actually get them as a result of the weight loss. More often than not the stretch marks are already there due to the initial weight gain, but they become more apparent when the fat is burned and the skin begins to get loose.
