Any tips on stopping smoking?

I’ve been trying to quit. I managed two days off them last week which was a start but now i’m back on. I’ve been using nicotine patches and these ones do work. Except i do miss the hand to mouth action which really brings on the craving. How do i get through a craving?

well, peppermints work, but then you start loving those and you put on weight (my aunt). try sunflower seeds, the ones that aren’t shelled yet.

my grandfather said that when he quit smoking he used to put mints in his mouth, just for something to be there

Try to develop a new habit, chewing gum works for some people. Remove yourself from situations where you would smoke.

Its hard, I know. Good luck.

With the patch, you’ve got the nicotine licked (so to speak). To deal with what to do with your mouth and hands, get some Tootsie Roll Pops — that what I used. But be sure not to let ’em stay in one particular corner of your mouth, all that sugar in one spot is terrible on the teeth!

    howdy Declan L..

actually folks in support groups have a tool they call the 5D’s.. that can help with the craving, as far as the hand to mouth stuff i have known folks to eat sunflower seeds, or even salted in shell peanuts.. others us the flavored tooth picks, or birch tea sticks from health food stores.. but even plasticcoffee stirrers can be used.. here’s the 5D’s

Distract (do something else) for instance its hard to smoke doing dishes

Delay (i don’t need one right now).. continued delays = a quit!!

Discuss you did that by asking the question, people in support groups do it in meetings or e-mails

Drink Water, it helps reduce cravings, and flushes toxins

Deep breathe, most smokers only breathe deeply when inhaling!!

the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are he as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

I’ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend – NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

it’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! 🙂

    Good luck kicking the habit!
